What the bungee jump involves
Bungee jumping is one of the adventure staples of Victoria Falls, alongside jet boating, whitewater rafting and mountain biking3. Shearwater Bungee runs its activities from the Victoria Falls Bridge, and its site carries a “Since 1994”4 badge.
You get about 4 seconds of freefall1 before the Shearwater team recovers you. The rest at a glance:
- Setting: above the Zambezi River and the Batoka Gorge1
- Fitness: average, with no previous experience needed2
- Season: Shearwater runs the bungee all year round2
How high is the Victoria Falls bungee?
Shearwater bills the jump at 111 metres1, from the Victoria Falls Bridge towards the Zambezi River. The bridge deck itself sits 128 m above the river’s low-water mark5.
The steel arch spans the Second Gorge5 of the falls and opened in April 19053. If you want the back story before you stand on the edge, read up on the history of the Zambezi gorge bridge.
How much does bungee jumping at Victoria Falls cost?
Shearwater prices the bungee at $1941 (checked October 2026). You’ll still find older, lower figures online: $130 from Livingstone Tourism and $1681 from Wikivoyage, so don’t plan around those.

Who can do the bungee
You need to be at least 142 to jump, and the weight limit depends on whose listing you read.
- Age: Manawa says jumpers under 18 need written parental authorisation7
- Weight: Shearwater’s booking page gives a maximum of 120 kg2
- Weight, other listings: Manawa allows 140 kg in low water and 130 kg in high water7
If you’re near the limit, go by the operator’s own figure rather than an agent’s.
Getting to the bridge from Victoria Falls town
Getting to the jump means a border crossing: the bridge has border posts at both ends5, in Victoria Falls town and in Livingstone. Plan it like this:
-
Pack your passport
You need your passport to reach the bridge, as it sits between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
-
Leave town early
Manawa advises leaving town 1 hour before your jump time to clear customs and immigration.
-
Pass the border post
The bridge has border posts at both ends, in Victoria Falls town and in Livingstone.
-
Register on the Zambian side
Manawa says bungee registration is on the Zambian side of the river.
If you’re based on the Zambian bank instead, see more Livingstone details for the town at the other end of the bridge.
Safety record on the bridge
In late 2011 a bungee cord snapped and a young Australian woman fell 24 metres5 into the river. She survived.
Tourism Update reported in January 2012 that the accident came after 17 years and more than 150,000 jumps10 without incident. Shearwater then withdrew all cords from the batch the snapped cord came from10.
Other things to do on and around the bridge
The bridge and the Batoka Gorge below it are easy to turn into a half-day. Close by you’ll find:
- The gorge swing: a 70-metre free fall ending in a swing 120 metres above the Zambezi, at The Lookout Cafe11
- The zipline: 425 m across the gorge at up to 106 km/h12
- A small, free museum5 about the bridge on the Zambian side
- Guided tours of the bridge’s lower structure9
If you’d rather watch than jump, the Lookout Café overlooks the canyon below the falls, including the bridge9.
Swimming in natural pools at the top of the falls is possible only on the Zambian side9, and the low-water season waterfall pool page explains how it works. Many visitors also take a day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana13: start by planning a Chobe day trip schedule, or browse things to do around the falls.
