Self-catering accommodation in Victoria Falls compared

Self-catering stays side by side

Self-catering here means a lodge, villa or house with a kitchen of your own. Victoria Falls Guide describes the private homes as houses with a fully kitted kitchen, lounge and dining areas, a garden and usually a pool3.

Each place is here because a checked source backs it: its own site, its booking page or its map listing gives its kind, price or who it suits. Not ranked: most searched first. A dash means our sources don't say. Each value comes from the sources listed at the end of this page.

Nyota Backpackers is the exception: it’s a hostel where guests can use a fully equipped self-catering kitchen4. For more hostels, see backpackers in Victoria Falls; for hotels and lodges without a kitchen, start with where to stay in Victoria Falls.

How much does self-catering cost in Victoria Falls?

Self-catering in Victoria Falls starts at US$63.502 per person a night at Lokuthula Lodges, while Victoria Falls Rest Camp has a two-bedroom self-catering lodge from $90 per night9.

  • Lokuthula Lodges Self-catering, per person per night US$63.50–US$172
  • Victoria Falls Rest Camp Self-catering lodge, per night, breakfast included US$90–US$390
  • Miombo Mews Per villa per night US$200–US$320
  • Large private self-catering houses Victoria Falls Guide, older prices US$400–US$500

Lokuthula is priced per person; the others per unit per night. The private-house prices are older figures, so ask for a current quote.

What moves the price:

  • Sharing at Lokuthula. In high season, it’s US$86–92.17 each with 4 or 6 guests, against US$138.25–172 each with 2 or 42 (checked October 2026).
  • Season. Lokuthula’s green season runs 1 January to 30 June and its high season 1 July to 31 December2. Victoria Falls Guide lists one Miombo Mews rate for January to December5 (checked October 2026).
  • Low-season deals elsewhere. Many lodges start low-season rates in November, and many keep them in December, though usually not over the festive season10.
  • No extras. Victoria Falls Guide says private homes tend to be cheaper because you pay for the accommodation only, with no extras3. Its larger-house prices date from 20223, so ask for a current quote.

Across the border in Livingstone, Golden Days Lodge lists its apartments at K1,5008, with no year or basis stated. For contrast, Classic Rooms at the Victoria Falls Hotel start from $66411.

Booking rules: deposits, payment and check-in

Booking rules differ more than the kitchens do: one place wants the full amount up front, an agent wants a deposit.

Who does self-catering suit, and who should skip it?

Self-catering suits people who want private time with family or friends3, and groups happy to cook rather than pay for extras. It’s a poorer fit in a few cases:

  • No car, no shuttle. Private homes are generally in the quiet residential area, a few kilometres from the town centre3.
  • You want activities in the rate. At Old Drift Lodge, the rate includes morning or afternoon game drives in the Zambezi National Park15; compare safari lodge rates and stays.
  • You want a hotel’s service. Golden Days Lodge’s rooms come with room service8, which a private house won’t give you.

Where the self-catering stays are

Most of these stays sit within a short drive of the falls, but few are an easy walk. Victoria Falls lies on the Zambezi River at the western tip of Zimbabwe16, and most places in town are no more than 3 km from the falls17.

Game drives and river trips from a self-catering base

A self-catering rate covers your bed, so you book activities yourself. Victoria Falls is a centre for jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and mountain biking18, and game drives run in the Zambezi National Park next door.
